Daniel James Wilkinson‘s works are layered with elements of both nostalgic popular culture and modernist pictorial language. The works are rich in occultist design and devoid of literal explanation and are intricately constructed to recall/recreate the exuberance, excess and energy of a character or object. The practice involves what André Breton defined as ‘pure psychic automatism’. Wilkinson ‘channels’ characters and fears whilst producing a body of work that suggests a sense of nostalgia for the paraphernalia of a moment, place or person.
